ShepherdCare, Inc. is a nonprofit National Heritage Foundation that assists ministers in acquiring the tools necessary to prevent burnout, avoid moral failure and sustain long-term effectiveness in ministry. ShepherdCare is the result of years of research into the dynamics of forced termination in the ministry. Our focus is the health of the minister’s soul. Healthy ministers result in healthy ministries. Forced termination often results from lack of competency in several key areas of the minister’s life. We desire to teach ministers these insights through counseling, conferences, and publications of interest to all those in full-time ministry.
SEVEN FOUNDATION STONES. Our empirical research indicates the difference between failure and long-term effectiveness in ministry rests in the mastery of seven key areas of competency. Ministers deficient in one or more of these areas are more vulnerable to burnout, moral failure and forced termination. These common stumbling blocks were used to create the seven foundation stones used in ShepherdCare’s workbook for ministers, Preventing Ministry Failure. It is also the basis for our minister conferences, which can be tailored to suit any group of men and women in both traditional and nontraditional ministry settings.
